The UOIT/DC Campus Emergency Response Team is a voluntarily run and staffed emergency response team to cover the University and college campus for any medical or trauma related scenario that happens on campus.
We currently staff the team with about 50 volunteer responders and 8 volunteer executives. The team was born in the summer of 2007 and covered its first day on September 1 2007. We had a total of 15 volunteer responders, who also did the work of the executives at that time. It used to be only day coverage with no overnight coverage for the residences.
When we went to cover 24/7 on October 9, 2007 this posed a struggle. Having numerous shifts in one day and we expanded our team to about 40 volunteers, the list was never ending. The spreadsheet was long and tedious to try and work through every employee’s availability and schedule based on that.
