The QuestionPoint service was developed by OCLC Online Computer Library Center, the Library of Congress, and the 24/7 Reference Cooperative.
In addition to providing access to librarians 24 hours a day, the service also includes a global network of cooperating libraries that work together to provide authoritative answers to reference questions.
Over 500 libraries around the world participate in the 24/7 Reference Cooperative and contribute a few hours of staffing per week so this service can be available to participating communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. The librarians are in various time zones ranging from Hawaii to the UK. There are different schedules for the Public Cooperative, Academic Cooperative, 24/7 Librarians, and Spanish-language staffers.
24/7 Reference: 1999
Our previous scheduling tool was custom-designed in 2001, but it had limited functionality. It could only be displayed in one time zone and shifts could only be scheduled in full hour increments.
