Here is an overview of our business. We operate as a full-service veterinary hospital and pet resort located in Lafayette, Louisiana. We have been open since the mid-sixties and have been a longtime staple for pet care in our area. The company started with four employees. In 2008 we decided to grow our business and expand our service to include boarding and grooming. We hired additional vets and staff and doubled our business size almost immediately.
Our team now consists of a combination of veterinarians, managers, assistants, bathers, groomers, receptionists, etc. We are open for 12.5 hours a day at most and operate variable hours 7 days a week. Our schedule is a little different in that approximately 90% of the time it is the same week to week (same staff have same shifts), however changes occasionally to accommodate new team members, for seasonal fluctuation and for vacations.
I think of our business as being an awkward size at this time because we have 40 team members, all with different schedules and needs- which sounds like a lot to me considering two years ago we only had 20. I feel like we are a larger business now, yet we are still a “small” business by definition. We have a great team, and I work to accommodate everyone’s needs to make this a great place to work and for our clients to come.
