First Defense Legal Aid has provided Chicago residents with an on-call attorney free of charge, since 1993. This non-profit has dedicated over 15 years to providing direct legal representation, educational programming, community organizing and political advocacy. FDLA seeks to ensure equal justice to individuals who are arrested in the city of Chicago and to educate Chicago residents about the power of their Constitutional rights. At any given time, FDLA has a dedicated roster of reliable, well-trained and experienced lawyers who provide general legal advice, and actual police representation.
With only three paid employees and over 100 volunteers covering a 24-hour service, managing an extensive shift schedule that proved to be time consuming and frustrating. Before switching to Humanity, FDLA employees struggled with shift scheduling miscommunication and were consumed with excessive email exchanges and phone calls.
Humanity has helped to expedite the employee scheduling process by providing a simplified platform that is accessible to their employees and all their volunteers. Humanity has taken out the communication hassle by giving their staff and volunteers the ability to select the open shifts they are available for, and check the schedule on a communal, up-to-date calendar. FDLA has overcome the challenges of coordinating volunteer shift preferences with open shifts, and sharing finalized shift schedules.
Humanity is exactly what we’re looking for…we very highly recommend the work scheduler Humanity: for a non-profit like ours, there is no other way to go. We found the Humanity team to be responsive and the scheduling process is stress free -Scott Finger, First Defense Legal Aid
Humanity commends FDLA for the work that they do and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to work with an organization like them.
