The Catty Shack Ranch started about 30 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida by the Executive Director / Curator, Curt LoGiudice. Curt started out training police dogs and began working with exotic animals in 1982. Passionate about rescuing animals, attending conferences and educating individuals about endangered animals and exotic animals.

In 2000, the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary was granted its nonprofit 501(c) 3 status. With a board of directors to help ensure the best care possible for the animals in need, they adopted a no breeding, no selling, no trading and no buying policy to help ensure every animal that is given refuge at the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary will not be jeopardized by irresponsible growth – all of the animals taken in at this sanctuary have a permanent home for life.

In 2004, they became licensed/accredited to be open to the public. They strongly believe in educated children and the public about the dangers of owning these exotic animals as “house pets” and their plight in the wild. Now that they are open to the public and give educational school tours throughout the year, their schedules have become more hectic.

They have to keep track of a busy schedule for their volunteers not only to help the animals but also to schedule fundraisers, special events, school tours and manage their thrift store. They consider themselves very fortunate to have a wonderful group of veterinarians and dentists that donate their time to help the sanctuary residents, particularly because volunteers come from all around the country. Coordinating schedules for volunteers and veterinarians around the country, while additionally ensuring that they focus the as much time and energy as possible in education, community awareness and animal care, can be quite a headache. Time is precious, and they try to minimize the unnecessary time spent on schedule and coordinating changing availability.

Previously, the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary relied on pen and paper to deal with their scheduling needs. Since they have switched to Humanity, they have seen improvements in their scheduling, communication and their ability to keep track of valuable hours spent helping the animals. The ‘Message Wall’ has been particularly useful for communication purposes – they can easily leave comments and instructions for volunteers. Similarly, volunteers can leave notes and public messages for management staff to bring anything to their attention.

”We would recommend Humanity and their team. This system has helped us…” -Kimberly Kyle, The Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary”
